Gandhidham grew around Kandla port and is now the main industrial town of eastern Kutch. The Kandla Special Economic Zone houses multi-product export units, the port area has edible oil refineries and liquid storage terminals, and the Gandhidham and Kandla belt holds one of India's largest clusters of saw mills and plywood units, running on imported logs.
