An AC servo drive is an electronic controller that precisely regulates the speed, position, and torque of an AC servo motor. It receives command signals from a PLC, compares them with encoder feedback, and adjusts voltage and frequency for precise motion. Used in CNC, packaging, textile, and robotic applications.

EtherCAT is a high-speed industrial Ethernet protocol enabling real-time communication between a motion controller and multiple servo drives with microsecond-level synchronization. Unlike RS485, it supports multi-axis coordination with near-zero latency, making it ideal for precision machining and robotics. RB Automation R6 Series drives support EtherCAT.

The R5 Series is a standard-performance AC servo drive suitable for most industrial automation tasks. The R6 Series is a 6th-generation high-performance drive featuring ARM+FPGA architecture with R-AI 2.0 technology, EtherCAT communication, and STO safety certification — designed for demanding multi-axis and high-speed applications.

For cost-sensitive machines, the S5L (50 W-2000 W) and S6L (100 W-2000 W) series offer position, speed and torque control with RS485 Modbus networking. The S5L adds built-in PLC programming and the S6L supports an absolute encoder. For higher dynamic response, auto-tuning or EtherCAT, choose the R5 (0.05-2.3 kW) or R6 (0.1-3 kW) series instead.
