A label gap sensor detects the gap between labels, or the label itself, on a moving web so that labelling and packaging machines can position each label correctly. The sensors on this page use optical technology for opaque labels and ultrasonic technology for transparent labels, including transparent labels on a transparent backing.

Choose the optical version for non-transparent labels; it uses an infrared light source, has a 40 mm passage depth and handles object speeds up to 200 m/min. Choose the ultrasonic version for transparent labels; it has a 69 mm passage depth and handles up to 180 m/min. Both have a 3 mm passage width and an M8 4-pin connector.

Setup uses a teach-in button, so the sensor learns the label and gap on your actual material. You can select light ON or dark ON switching, and the output is 4-wire PNP or NPN to suit your PLC or label controller input. Connection is made through an M8 4-pin connector, which keeps wiring on the labelling head simple.
